Internship Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in the City of Alachua Internship Program.  The Office of the City Manager administers the Program.  The Internship program was initiated in 2012 to utilize the talents of college/university students for special projects and initiatives that will benefit the Good Life Community.  As available internship positions become available, they will be posted.

The City of Alachua Municipal Internship Program provides a unique benefit to the City and prospective student interns.  Students will be able to expand their skills and talents with on-the-job experience with professional staff members of a municipal government, while contributing to special projects that benefit the community and enrich the academic experience.  The Program is coordinated through the Office of the City Manager.

Undergraduate and graduate students must be currently enrolled in a college or university and possess at least a 2.5 GPA.  If student graduates during the term of the student internship, the student may continue the internship until the internship duration is complete.

Interns will be placed in various City departments as needed and work on a variety of projects that impact a municipal government.

The duration of a student internship is dependent upon the needs of the department of which the intern is assigned.  However, at no time shall the duration of a student internship exceed a seven (7) month period.  Students who complete an internship period may reapply for future internships.  The City of Alachua reserves the right to terminate the internship at any time.

Undergraduate interns will be compensated at a rate of $10.00 per hour.  Graduate interns will be compensated at a rate of $12.00 per hour.  Internship positions may become available that do not provide compensation.

The availability of internship positions is based upon the needs of various City departments. The availability of compensated internship positions is based upon the needs of various City departments and available funding.  Once an availability arises, the City will provide notice of such availability, which will include description of duties as well as anticipated duration of student internship.
