GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is responsible for assisting utility customers. It also records and receives payments in a multi-utility environment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utility Billing Manager.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Services customers and performs cashiering function, taking in various City payments; i.e. utility payments, permit fees and other miscellaneous revenue payments.
- Maintains/opens new utility accounts.
- Handle all aspects of Utility Billing customer service, by phone, over the counter, drive-thru and via email.
- Accurately inputs and accesses pertinent information from computer.
- Creates work orders and coordinates with field personnel to ensure timely completion of expected service.
- Maintains various customer logs daily and monthly.
- Assists in emergency storm situations for service restoration.
- Crossed trained in receptionist position for coverage as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
- A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of business math and accounting principles.
- Knowledge of daily operations and activities of customer service.
- Knowledge of City rates, ordinances and billing policies.
- Knowledge of functions of computer systems.
- Skills in the operation of a computer, calculators and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate with various individuals from other City employees to contractors and citizens.
- Ability to handle complaints and difficult individuals.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is typically performed in a relatively safe, secure, and stable work environment.
- The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, and talking.
