GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a Water Treatment System. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Treatment Supervisor.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in operation of water pollution control facilities and maintenance thereof including taking samples, testing and supervising the running of tests.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair of wells, controllers, pumps, chlorine systems, generators, etc.
- Changes, calibrates, and regulates chemical feed systems.
- Maintains proper levels and system pressure using SCADA controlled wells and high service pumps.
- Reviews SCADA operation and pumps performance for previous 24 hours, enters into daily log book.
- Collects compliance samples to turn into lab and maintains records.
- Helps design, construct and repairs distribution systems.
- Assists in distribution system mapping.
- Installs and repairs backflow devices.
- Helps to identify and correct malfunctions.
- Performs general maintenance on water tank/tower areas.
- Performs mosquito spraying as needed.
- Remains on standby 24 hours a day.
- Prepares various records and reports using a computer to enter data, charts and reports.
- Drives a vehicle.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years’ experience in Water Plant Operations.
- A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license with Airbrake Endorsement.
- Valid State of Florida Class “C” Water certificate required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles, operating procedures and servicing requirements of machinery and equipment of water treatment plant.
- Knowledge of water treatment operations, policies, procedures and methods.
- Good mechanical skills.
- Ability to make and maintain records and reports.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment.
